Joan Gardiner makes tiles for private homes and public places in the greater Washington, D.C. area. Her work has been on exhibition in schools, churches and organizations throughout the area. Gardiner studied at the Maryland Institute, College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland, and has operated her own studio in Unison, Virginia since 1973.

Here is another video featuring Joan’s work with tile:

Joan is one of the most talented artists in Virginia. Her installation in the Rust Library in Leesburg, VA is a must see. Her bas relief animals and insects are so lifelike. My respect for her is enormous.
Joan directed the ceramic tile mural project for the Visitors Center in the newly opened Arts & Education Center, The Barns of Rose Hill in Berryville. The work is masterful! It is the signature art piece of The Barns.
Hello,
I have admired Joan Gardiner’s tiles for years, ever since I saw an article on her work in The Washington Post in the 1990s. I would like to know if she teaches classes; and if so, where can I find information on her schedule and fee.
Thank you,
Mary Jane Gardner
